From the Commodore

This season is going to be a big one for the Minnows. We have the National Championships at Rockingham from 6 to 11 January, 2012. Shelley is hosting the State Championships from 3 to 5 March, 2012 (Labour Day long weekend). And in preparation for the sailing season and these events Shelley Sailing Club is hosting the Minnow Training Weekend and sleepover on 17 & 18 September.

The Minnow Training Weekend will see Minnow sailors of all skill levels from all of the clubs come together at Shelley for a weekend of fun sailing, intensive coaching, socialising and fun. We have past Shelley sailors Matt Jerwood, Caitlin Elks and Martina Ciotti all coming to help with the coaching and share the skills that have helped them win State, National and World Championships and compete at the highest levels in international competition.

As the host club we want all of the Shelley Minnow sailors to make the effort to come along and be involved. You will learn a lot and have a lot of fun. There will be lots of sailors from all skill levels and so everyone will be catered for. Those who have done the sleepovers before know how much fun they are, and those who have not done the sleepover before really should give it a go.

The club will make the training Minnows available for use by Juniors who do not have a Minnow, but would like to participate. If you would like to borrow one of the club Minnows please contact Paul on commodore@shelleysailingclub.com.au to register your interest.

Information and permission slips are available at www.shelleysailingclub.com.au and www.minnowswa.yachting.org.au

Please register your interest as soon as possible as we need to know numbers for catering and coaching logistics.

Any parents / helpers who are available to assist with logistics / fun activities / catering we would welcome your help to lighten the load on the coaching staff so please let us know. While, as usual, all parents are invited to attend the sleepover we understand that most choose not to. We could really use the assistance of one (or more) of the ladies to do the sleepover to help with our duty of care as we do expect quite a few of the girls to be coming along.
